Sweet! 5 Top Treats powering Blyth through lock-down
Maintaining a healthy diet during lock-down can be tough, but there is nothing wrong with rewarding your kids (and yourself!) with the occasional treat at the end of the week!
We visited the newly opened "Candy Shack" on Plessey Road to see what sweet treats are tantalising Blyth's tastebuds...
"It has to be Jolly Ranchers" explains owner Ahsan Malik, as he enthusiastically guides us through the range of brightly coloured candies and drinks that adorn the shelves of Candyshack.
The Candyshack was born after Ahsan spotted a gap in the market as he was travelling around Blyth & Ashington looking for locations to open a new shop.
"Candyshack is all about bringing the taste of America to Blyth"
Pop tarts are now a big seller, with the shop now stocking over 5 different flavours.
Cotton Candy is a tangy blue soda that tastes just like candy floss!
After moving on from sweets and drinks, Ahsan has plans to import a new range of American products including genuine American Ice Cream & Crushes.
The Sweet Soaker
Something we've never seen before, the Sweet Soaker is a toy and treat in one.
Ideal for Birthdays, watch party-goers unload the candy balls then reload to blast each other with in an all-out water fight.
Who didn't love Lucky Charms as a child? Oat biscuits with secret multi-coloured marshmallow shapes.
"If you didn't eat all the marshmallow bits first, you weren't doing it right!" explains customer, Emma.
An Empire Built in Lockdown
Candyshack started trading on 16th March just as the lock-down commenced.
The shop has created a new job for sales assistant Melissa, and Ahsan expects to take on more staff when local schools re-open and trading hours can be increased.
Most of the products are imported from the states. With 6-8 week lead times, stock sells out fast!
Candyshack is located at 150 Plessey Road
