A wooded area shows signs of a campfire and more cans and bottles.

Cans of lighter fuel were found on the ground.

Residents complained that loud music was played late into the night and that those gathered were dis-obeying social distancing rules.

Visitors Obstructed Driveways

Talking about the incident, Councillor Barry Flux said:

Myself and Councillor Heard have had a great deal of correspondence from residents concerning Nelson Hill.

Council teams have been out yesterday and today to clear up the mess that has been left.

PLEASE do take rubbish away with you. I salute the council team who have taken away rubbish, however in extreme weather with compacted snow and ice they are not going to be able to clear all rubbish.

As Councillors we sourced bins for this area in the spring and a large amount of broken toboggan sleighs and beer cans / bottles were removed from here by council operatives.

There are also current Covid rules and issues relating to anti social behaviour (fires and drinking). These are policing rather than council matter. We have raised with the police along with other councillors

There are also of course safety issue. Broken bottles are a danger.

Please can we request that those going to enjoy the snow at Nelson Hill consider the local residents.

People are driving into Westwood Grange, obstructing driveways, footpaths and parking on the bends.

Also the restrictions on gatherings is being ignored, and the amount of litter being left is both shocking and dangerous.

These are tough times for everyone, and no one wants to stop anyone from having some fun, but please be considerate, follow social distancing rules and take your litter home.
