Blyth MP Calls for Police Investigation into local Funeral Directors
Blyth Valley MP, Ian Levy, has called for Northumbria Police to fully investigate a funeral directors in Blyth following allegations of fraud.
K&T Shields Funeral Directors ceased trading in early September and there is uncertainty as to whether pre-paid funeral plans will be refunded. A number of residents have got in touch with the MP as they have not been provided with answers about where their money has gone.
Alleged Fraud by False Representation
Ian Levy said:
“I am very concerned about what has happened and that those involved with the company appear to be blaming each other. Suggestions that money will only be refunded for plans taken out up to 2007 is not reassuring and calls into question how money was invested and safeguarded.
I am aware that the County Council’s Trading Standards department have launched an investigation, but I have also written to the Chief Constable of Northumbria Police as fraud by false representation has been alleged by one of my of constituents.
When people are taking out a plan to cover their own funeral costs, they should not be faced with problems like this and I will do everything I can to support those affected.
Northumbria Police Requested to Investigate
The letter above has been sent to Chief Constable Winton Keenan, and copied to the Police & Crime Commissioner.
A reply is eagerly awaited.
